The 'Hoopster Of The Week'
for this week
goes to:
the Big Black Man who, as a multi-sports
star, team executive, and businessman, is the
only person enshrined in both the Pro Baseball
(2006)and Pro Basketball (2016) Halls of Fame,
and was considered the best player in the
country in the 1910s and 20s, plus he was
the first Big Black Student-Athlete at Penn
State University in basketball and baseball
but because of angry white mobs, he had to
transfer to Duquesene University, where he
led all basketball scorers for three straight seasons, and
in the Pros he was a prolific and deep scorer
like Steph Curry on the team he started and
managed, the Loendi Big Five, who won 4
straight Colored Basketball World
Championships from 1920 to 1923, and he
did all of this while still playing baseball,
joining a team as an outfielder, and
eventually owning the team, called the
Homestead Grays, which had star players
like Cool Papa Bell and Josh Gibson, which
dominated the competition by winning
9 straight Negro League pennants,
and way so much more...

Black Basketball History Month,
celebrated in October each year, was
founded by Ralph C. Winge, D.D.S.
in 2025 to acknowledge, praise,
and hold high, with cheer, the untold
numbers of International Black Men
and Women, both past and present,
that made us go, "Wow!...Whoa!...
...and...OMGosh!" in their nonstop,
valiant, and always surprising,
individual and team
efforts to put the ball through the
hoop the most, to win games and
championships!
