Our 'Baseballer of the Week'
for this week
goes to:
The Big Black Guy, 6-1, 180, also known
as 'Mr. Sunshine,' was a military man for
two years, then played for the Kansas
City Monarchs, then joined the Chicago
Cubs in 1953, and was voted the Rookie
of the Year runner-up in 1955, and was a
13x All-Star Gamer, plus was MVP in
1958 and '59, while also being the Cubs
first Golden Glove winner in 1960,
and led the NL in HRs 2x, then
he became a player/coach, with a statue
erected of him outside of Wrigley Field
in 2008, and was awarded the Presidential
Medal of Freedom in 2013 by
President Obama,
and so much more...
...Ernie Banks!
Mr. Banks had a mid-upper-lip
Black Baseball History Month was
founded by Ralph Winge, D.D.S.
in 2025 to commemorate, place value,
and get to know, our Heroes, while
standing and cheering for, the many
International Black Men who 'Shocked
and Awed' us with too many to count,
fantastic and unexpected physical
heroics at the Ballpark, in exciting
efforts for their teams to cross home
plate more than their opponents to win.
